SEAL OF BILITERACY AND PATHWAY AWARDS

The Roaring Fork School District will award a “Seal of Biliteracy” as an endorsement on a student’s diploma and transcript, to each graduating high school student who demonstrates proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.

SEAL OF BILITERACY

The Superintendent or designee shall award the Seal of Biliteracy to qualified students who:

  1. Meet all district criteria for receiving a high school diploma.

  2. Submit a Letter of Intent to be considered for the Seal of Biliteracy.

  3. Document meeting all approved criteria prior to an established date of 12th grade year

    including:

    1. Meet language proficiency minimum for all four language domains in the target

      language.

    2. Meet academic proficiency minimum for reading in each language.

    3. Meet academic proficiency minimum for writing in each language.

    4. Submit proper documentation for completion of Bilingual Capstone Project.

The seal shall be affixed to the diploma in recognition of the student’s accomplishments in linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy in one or more languages other than English. The student will be awarded a medallion to be worn during the graduation ceremony, and the recognition of the achievement will be noted on the student’s transcripts.

PATHWAYS AWARD

The Superintendent or designee shall award the Pathways Award to qualified students who:

  1. Meet all district criteria for grades 4th/5th and/or 8th grade

  2. Submit a Letter of Intent to be considered for Pathways Award.

  3. Document meeting all approved criteria prior to an established date of 4th/5th, and/or 8th

grade year including:

  1. Meet language proficiency minimum for all four language domains in the target

    language.

  2. Meet academic proficiency minimum for reading in each language.

  3. Meet academic proficiency minimum for writing in each language.

  4. Submit proper documentation for completion of a project-based learning experience.

The award shall be a certificate in recognition of the student’s accomplishments in linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy in one or more languages other than English. The recognition of the achievement will be noted on the student’s transcripts.
