Letter to the Editor: In Praise of Teachers
Dear Teachers of the Roaring Fork Schools,
It is a well established fact that teachers are the most important out-of-home influence on a child’s education and on his or her future. Teachers do more than anyone else to change the future for every child. They do so much more than educate students -- they inspire and motivate; they serve as caretakers and fixers; ultimately, they change lives. I appreciate the time, dedication, and heart that all of our teachers give to their work. Teachers spend early mornings, late nights, and weekends planning, providing student feedback, meeting with parents, furthering their own professional development, developing community partnerships, and otherwise going far above and beyond their jobs. Teachers do the most important work for our individual and collective futures.
Teachers deserve recognition every day and every week. However, for more than 30 years, there has been a week designated in May to express appreciation for teachers. This provides a special opportunity for all of us to think about and express the innumerable reasons why we are grateful for the special people who work long and tireless days to educate students.
Personally, and on behalf of the board of education and leadership team of the school district, I want publicly to thank our teachers for the difference they make each and every day in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week.
All the best,
Roaring Fork Schools
