The Roaring Fork Schools transportation team implemented creative bus routes to help decrease traffic during the Grand Avenue Bridge detour, including the hugely successful walking school bus concept and revised routes that avoided the detour route. The bridge is opening early next week--sometime on Tuesday--and the Colorado Department of Transportation is expecting traffic to return to the pre-construction normal. The district will start running normal bus routes in Glenwood Springs on Wednesday, November 8.

“Please note that by reverting to our ‘normal’ routes, we will not be using the exact same routes from last year. By adding a new school (Riverview), the routes will inevitably be different,” explained Transportation Director Jared Rains. “What we mean by normal is that our buses will be going through traffic to get between students homes and schools instead of relying on the walking school bus or indirect routes that avoid high-traffic areas.”

All bus routes for Glenwood Springs students can be seen here. These routes may be adjusted as needed. There are no changes to the Riverview, Carbondale or Basalt routes at this time.
